Specialty chemical startup Scimplify has raised $9.5 million in Series A funding, led by Omnivore, Bertelsmann India Investments, and existing investors 3one4 Capital and Beenext. This follows a $3.67 million seed round from the same investors last year. The new capital will enhance R&D and support market expansion. Mark Kahn from Omnivore highlighted Scimplify's commitment to affordable, sustainable agrochemicals and green chemistry, noting its significant impact on sustainable chemical manufacturing and global demand.
AI inference chip startup Groq has raised $640 million for its Series D funding round to further develop its AI inference technology. BlackRock Private Equity Partners, Cisco Investments, Samsung Catalyst Fund, and Neuberger Berman led the funding round. With this funding, Groq is valued at $2.8 billion and will use the funds to scale up its Language Processing Unit infrastructure, where it plans to add over 100,000 LPUs within GroqCloud. This will be the largest deployment of AI inference compute outside hyperscalers. GlobalFoundries is expected to start manufacturing LPUs by Q1 2025.
Datavolo has raised over $25 million in a Series A funding round led by General Catalyst, with participation from Citi Ventures, Human Capital, MVP Ventures, and Rob Bearden, former CEO of Cloudera Inc. Founded by Joe Witt and Luke Roquet, Datavolo has developed a groundbreaking data pipeline system based on Apache NiFi, originally designed at the NSA. This system aims to handle both structured and unstructured data, addressing the 90% of data that traditional pipelines struggle with, particularly for generative AI workloads.
