Seattle-based startup Arzeda, which designs new enzymes for various industries, has raised $38M in funding. Using advanced protein design software, Arzeda creates custom enzymes for clients like Unilever and BP, with applications spanning food, pharma, and biotech. The company, co-founded in 2009 by Alexandre Zanghellini, emerged from the University of Washington’s Institute for Protein Design. With 70 employees and a total of $86M raised to date, this funding round includes participation from investors like Sofinnova Partners and W.L. Gore & Associates.

Noida-based Redcliffe Labs raised $42M in a Series C funding round led by Denmark's IFU, with contributions from IFC, LeapFrog Investments, and existing backers like HealthQuad. The diagnostics provider plans to use the funds to expand into Tier II and III cities, enhancing access to affordable, high-quality diagnostic services. Strategic acquisitions, partnerships, and key leadership appointments will bolster the company’s mission to democratize healthcare and empower underserved communities in India.

Japanese startup Orange secured $19.5M in a pre-Series A round led by manga publisher Shogakukan to revolutionize manga translation using AI. Founded in 2021, Orange employs computer vision and NLP to rapidly translate manga from Japanese to English, achieving five times the current industry pace. To translate 50,000 manga titles in five years, Orange will also launch Emaqi, a digital manga store, in the summer of 2024. This funding aims to combat global manga piracy by addressing translation delays, affecting 98% of annual Japanese manga releases.
